Every visit, every time

What's included in a Loolaah's groom.

Welcome & coat check

We go over your dog's coat, skin, ears and any concerns you've mentioned. You'll get a quote before we begin — no surprises.

Bath & condition

Warm hydro-bath with the right shampoo for your dog's skin and coat — sensitive, oatmeal, de-shed or hand-stripped formulas available.

Dry & finish

Low-noise blaster and fluff dry, full brush out, scissor or clipper finish to breed standard or your preferred style.

Nails, ears & sanitary

Nails clipped or filed, ear hair removed and cleaned, sanitary trim. We'll let you know if we spot anything that needs a vet's eye.

Bandana & treats

Your dog leaves with a fresh bandana, a smell-of-a-thousand-flowers and a treat for the journey home.

Next-groom reminder

We'll suggest a sensible interval for your dog's coat and pencil in the next slot if you'd like — many regulars rebook on the day.

A note on matted coats

If your dog arrives badly matted we will speak with you before doing anything. Brushing matted coats can be painful — the kindest option is often a careful shave to a comfortable length, then growing back together. Welfare always leads the decision.

Frequently asked

Your questions, answered.

The things people ask Alice most often — from how often to groom, to why some dogs need a shave.

How often should my dog be groomed?

It depends on breed, coat type and lifestyle.

  • Long-haired & woolly (Shih Tzu, Cockapoo, Golden Retriever): every 4–6 weeks
  • Short-haired (Beagle, Labrador): every 8–12 weeks, plus regular baths & de-shedding
  • Double-coated (Husky, German Shepherd): every 6–8 weeks, especially in shedding seasons

Even if a full groom isn't needed, nails, ears and a sanitary trim are best done every 4–6 weeks.

Why is professional dog grooming important?

Regular grooming does far more than make your dog look lovely. It removes dirt, debris and dead hair; prevents painful matting; keeps skin healthy and coat shiny; allows early detection of lumps, bumps and parasites; helps maintain nails, ears and hygiene; and reduces shedding and allergens at home.

Why might my dog need to be shaved?

Your dog will never be shaved or clipped down without us speaking to you first. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, prolonged dematting is considered unkind. The most common reasons a full shave is the kindest option are:

  • Severe matting — brushing would cause bruising or pain
  • Medical or skin conditions — to let skin breathe and medication work
  • Parasite infestation — to remove parasites and treat effectively
  • Foreign substances — paint, sticky oils, chewing gum
  • Rescue cases — to give a neglected coat a fresh, healthy start
Why does professional grooming cost what it does?

Each groom takes 1.5–3+ hours depending on breed, coat condition, size and behaviour. Pricing reflects:

  • Time and one-to-one attention
  • Professional skill — City & Guilds Level 3 and canine first aid trained
  • High-quality tools, shampoos & dryers — kept clean and sharp
  • Salon overheads — rent, insurance, utilities
  • Tailored care to your dog's specific needs and temperament
What can I do at home between grooms?

Four simple habits make a huge difference:

  • Brush regularly with the right brush for your dog's coat
  • Bathe occasionally with a dog-safe shampoo
  • Check daily for tangles, mats and debris — especially behind ears, under armpits and around the bottom
  • Keep nails, ears & eyes clean — a quick wipe goes a long way
Do you groom puppies?

Yes — and we love them! Our Puppy Groom is for dogs up to 6 months old. We recommend 3 short, positive sessions to introduce your puppy to the sounds, smells and sensations of grooming so they grow up confident about it. Prices start from £30 for small breeds.
